2020 Varsity Pirate Baseball Classic Champs
Great Oak Baseball Families,
First off, welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. Although, it's not the typical start of a school year, I expect many great things for this upcoming year. I am writing this to give you some information about what we can and cannot do for baseball right now.
I received information late last week that our district has approved Phase 1 of athletics. This means that our athletes can condition on campus with safety protocols in place. While we normally don't start our conditioning program until late September, we are going to start on September 8 and will be going Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:15-4:15pm. We will follow all of the safety protocols outlined by the district guidelines. I have attached three files of the protocols that we will be required to follow, Please take a look at them with your son so we all know the expectations.
While we are excited to be given this opportunity to get our players back on campus doing some physical exercise, this is not mandatory by any means. This is not a baseball tryout, Phase one only allows us to condition. We are not allowed to hit, field or throw. So the players should not bring any baseball equipment. They only need to bring their own water bottle, a towel, and wear shoes and clothes they can run in. Check in will be at the varsity baseball field with players wearing a face covering when they arrive at school. Players who drive may park in the senior parking lot in an open spot or parents may drop their students off near the 300 building (two-story building near softball field). My suggestion would be to wear a gator-like face covering similar to the pro baseball players because it's easy to move up and down.
In order to participate, ALL players must be athletically cleared. This means they have had their physical and registered on home campus. Information for that can be found at https://www.gohsathletics.com/page/show/5007043-athletic-clearance
For any questions, you can contact myself or our Athletic Director Mr. Ramirez.
